Physical Plant Division
ABOUT THE Unit
The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) began operations on March 1, 1948, in Bucaramanga. Over the years, its Physical Plant Division has undergone several administrative reforms. In 1977, it was established as a unit attached to the Directorate of University Services. In 1982, under Decree-Law 80 of 1980, it became the Physical Plant Section within the Division of University Services. Finally, in 1994, as part of the new Regionalization Program, it was reorganized as a division under the Administrative Vice President’s Office.
OUR Scope
The scope of the Physical Plant Division is defined as follows:
- Management of gardening personnel and equipment.
- Institutional cleaning services.
- Security and surveillance services across all fixed and mobile modalities.
- Support for activities carried out within environmental programs.
- Management of transportation vehicles.
- Advisory services in architecture, civil, electrical, and construction engineering.
- Maintenance services for facilities located at the Main Campus, Faculty of Health Sciences, and the UIS campuses in Guatiguará, Bucarica, Málaga, Barrancabermeja, Socorro, and Barbosa.

Masonry
- Facade maintenance and repair.
- Roof maintenance and repair.
- General repairs (plastering, painting, and other work for offices and public areas).
- Wall and partition construction.
- Other area-related activities.
Carpentry
- Construction, maintenance, and painting of wooden surfaces.
- Installation of furniture and fixtures.
- Other activities related to the area.
Plumbing
- Cleaning and maintenance of aboveground and underground water tanks.
- Cleaning and maintenance of drainage structures (catch basins and grates).
- Maintenance of water distribution networks and sanitary installations
- Repair of water leaks
- Other activities related to the area.
Gardening
- Planting and cultivation of trees, lawns, and gardens.
- Maintenance of trees, gardens, and green areas.
- Tree pruning.
Electrical services
- Installation, maintenance, and replacement of electrical networks and lighting fixtures.
- Installation of electrical systems: electrical wiring for new buildings, outlets, switches, lighting systems, and electrical panels.
- Other activities related to the area.
Painting
- Metal painting services.
- Other activities related to the area.
Welding
- Welding of metal structures and components.
- Other activities related to the area.
Public space management
Users may report or request maintenance services for any area, space, lighting fixture, or other element located within the public areas of the campus.
General services
- Cleaning of buildings and public spaces.
- Cleaning of windows, walls, doors, and boards.
- Cleaning of building roofs and terraces in accordance with the physical plant’s general maintenance program.
- Other activities aelated to the area.
Security and surveillance
- Access permits for academic, cultural, sports, and other events.
- Vehicle access permits for university facilities.
- Coordination of security and monitoring measures for special events held within the university.
- Other activitiesrelated to the area.
Transportation and mobility
- Transportation for work-related travel between campuses.
- Transportation of materials and equipment.
- Other activities related to the area.
Design, construction, and project supervision
- Development and execution of construction, renovation, expansion, remodeling, and other civil works projects undertaken by the university.
- Technical advisory services on civil and electrical works.
- Other activities related to the area.
