Universidad Industrial de Santander is a public and autonomous institution committed to the efficiency, effectiveness, and continuous improvement of its academic, mission-related, evaluation, support, and administrative processes, in line with its Institutional Project. Since 2009, UIS has held ISO 9001:2015 certification, which has raised its quality standards. This Quality Management System (QMS) makes it possible to standardize processes, promote a culture of quality, increase beneficiary satisfaction, and build trust in its processes. UIS is dedicated to strengthening the culture of quality and continuous improvement in its academic and administrative activities, contributing to the development of Higher Education.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

System Objectives

  • Ensure appropriate and relevant support for the development of UIS mission-related processes.
  • Manage and administer the University’s available capacity to maximize the results of mission-related processes.
  • Consolidate a culture of solving current and potential problems in University processes.
  • Achieve a highly favorable perception among beneficiaries of the products and services offered by the University.

 

  • Strengthen the culture of self-control among University staff.
  • Provide beneficiaries with products and services within the required timeframes, according to their needs.
  • Provide beneficiaries with truthful, clear, and respectful information that facilitates their interaction with the Institution.

PROCESS

Approach

The University adopts a process-based approach that connects the interrelationship among the different Strategic, Evaluation, Mission-Related, and Support processes. This approach is represented in the University Process Map and consolidates the documented framework of the Quality Management System.

The documented structure of each process is defined in the Process Map. To consult it, it is necessary to access the University INTRANET, which can be reached from inside or outside the University Campus facilities.

Achievements

2008

Certification of the Quality Management System for UIS under NTC ISO 9001:2000 in Mission-Related, Strategic, Evaluation, and Support processes.

2010 and 2011

Follow-up audit visit to the Quality Management System (QMS) by the certifying body.

2013

Certification of the Conciliation Center under NTC 5906:2012 until 2016.

Participation in the Colombian Quality Management Award, becoming the first university in the country to participate in this award, led by the Administrative Vice Rector’s Office.

2015

Renewal of the Institutional Quality Certification under NTC GP 1000:2009 and NTC ISO 9001:2008 until 2018.

2017

Follow-up audit by the certifying body under ISO 9001:2008.
Follow-up audit under NTC 5906:2012 for the Conciliation Center.

 
 
2019

Renewal of the NTC Certification for the Conciliation Center under NTC 5906, valid until 2022.

2021

Renewal of the Quality Certification until 2024.

2023

Renewal of the Conciliation Center certification under NTC 5906:2012 until December 2025.

Institutional follow-up audit of the QMS under ISO 9001:2015.

 
 
2009

Update to the NTC ISO 9001:2008 version and certification of the Legal Clinic, being the first in the country under this standard. Certification under NTC GP 1000:2009 until 2012.

2012

Renewal of the Institutional Quality Certification, in which the Language Institute was certified until 2015.

Participation in the sample of universities for the project Methodology for Process Management in Accredited Colombian Universities, carried out by Universidad de Medellín.

2014

Follow-up audit visit to the Quality Management System (QMS) by ICONTEC.

Visit to participate in the survey of the research project: Impact of Management Standards in Public Entities of Colombia, carried out by the Institute of Studies of the Ministry of Public Administration – IEMP.

Renewal of the Conciliation Center Certification under NTC 5906 until 2019.
Follow-up audit by the certifying body under ISO 9001:2008.

2018

Recertification in Strategic, Evaluation, Mission-Related, and Support processes under the new version of the NTC ISO 9001:2015 standard.

2020

Follow-up of the Institutional Certification under NTC ISO 9001:2015.

2022

Successful follow-up by ICONTEC to the certification of the University Quality Management System under the NTC ISO 9001:2015 standard.

2024

Renewal of the Institutional QMS Certification under ISO 9001:2015 until 2027.

Follow-up audit of the Conciliation Center.

 
 

STRATEGIC

Context

The analysis of the University’s strategic planning provides an overall view of the institution and its operation, which makes it possible to establish strategies that contribute to maintaining operations in the short, medium, and long term. The University’s planning is defined in the Institutional Project approved through Agreement 26 of 2018 of the Superior Council and in the Institutional Development Plan 2019–2030 approved through Agreement 047 of 2019 of the Superior Council.

With the purpose of strengthening the system and complying with regulatory requirements, several analytical tools have been developed to highlight the interrelationship of different factors such as the internal and external context, stakeholders, strategic planning, opportunities, roles and responsibilities for institutional information interaction, all of which are supported by knowledge management and change management.

MANAGEMENT REVIEW

– QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The University reviews the Quality Management System at planned intervals to ensure its suitability, adequacy, effectiveness, and continuous alignment with the Institution’s strategic direction.

BENEFICIARY

SATISFACTION ASSESSMENT

.

The perception of beneficiary satisfaction is evaluated by each of the Institution’s processes through applied satisfaction surveys. The results are reviewed and tabulated for reporting in performance report FSE.10.

PROCESS INDICATOR PERFORMANCE

– QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

.

The Institution plans and implements the monitoring, measurement, analysis, and improvement processes necessary to demonstrate conformity with product requirements, ensure conformity of the management system, and continuously improve its effectiveness.

The measurement of process performance is carried out through indicators presented quarterly. This report is prepared using the indicator life-cycle formats FSE.14 and the process performance report FSE.10.
