TYPES OF
Mobility
Academic
Exchanges
This modality can be carried out virtually or in person to take courses at another university that correspond to the student’s curriculum, including required or elective academic credits: theoretical, practical, and theoretical-practical courses, as well as internships, clinical placements, and undergraduate thesis work. These courses may later be homologated by UIS.
Virtual exchange is a new form of educational interaction in which students can take online courses (100% virtual) offered by higher education institutions that have bilateral agreements or partnerships. Students may have their approved credits recognized without the need to travel to another city or country, and they may participate simultaneously with the in-person academic activities at their home university.
In summary, a virtual or in-person exchange program is a modality that allows students to take courses that are part of their curriculum at partner institutions.
Research
Internship
Completion of a research experience related to the student’s academic training at another university, research center, or research institute in partner institutions with recognized expertise in the field.
Internship Process
- Obtain an invitation from a researcher and align the internship as a modality for the undergraduate thesis project.
- Each university establishes its own specific requirements:
- Obtain approval from the Academic Vice Rector when there is no agreement in place (undergraduate level).
- Have an active agreement in place (graduate level).
- Prepare the required documents and follow the procedure guidelines.
Professional
Internship
It may be homologated as an undergraduate thesis project, academic credits, required or elective courses. It consists of a placement carried out by the student through specific projects in a company at the local, national, or international level, with the purpose of developing activities related to their professional training.
Social
Internship
Academic experience in which the student engages with the needs of territorial entities and national or international communities, and designs or implements alternative solutions to problems related to their professional field. Required or elective academic credits may be homologated, including those corresponding to the undergraduate thesis project.
Teaching
Internship
This internship may homologate required or elective academic credits, including those corresponding to the undergraduate thesis project. It is an academic experience that consists of carrying out pedagogical activities in national and international institutions.
Open
Courses
Academic experience aimed at taking courses at another university that do not necessarily imply the homologation of required or elective academic credits.
Dual Degree

Clinical
Rotations (Health Sciences)
This is a training experience aimed at medical students and medical specialty students, in which they may participate for at least one month and up to one semester. During the placement, students carry out practical activities related to medicine or clinical specialties. If the rotations are to be homologated, an agreement is required.
In addition, from the Office of External Relations, the application coordination process for this service is carried out during the usual semester schedule, following the mobility registration process as in exchanges. Likewise, applications are submitted exclusively within the framework of formal cooperation agreements between universities, since there are no agreements for work in hospitals or clinics.
Rotation activities without an agreement are considered open courses and are not eligible for recognition.
